EU Citizens living in the UK

Throughout the next 36 months, Professor Catherine Barnard, Sarah Fraser Butlin and Fiona Costello will be working together to explore the experiences of EU citizens living and working in the UK and their experiences and perceptions of Brexit.

Thank you for visiting our project website.

Our aim is to chart the experience and perceptions of EU migrants in the UK before, during and after Brexit to enable us to analyse issues facing EU migrants in seeking access to the social welfare system in the UK, the issues they have with immigration law and employment law, specifically the relationship between race and nationality discrimination and the Brexit process. Through this research we hope to inform public debate, particularly in light of the referendum outcome to leave the EU as the UK moves forward to renegotiate its relationship with the EU and its Member States. Our work is part of a programme called 'The UK in a Changing Europe' (http://ukandeu.ac.uk), which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.

On this website you will find information about the project, our events, activities and work in progress and how you might become involved. We will be blogging and tweeting regularly and, in this way, hope to make our work as interactive and engaging as possible. We will also produce a short documentary.

We warmly encourage anyone who is interested in our work to contact us. We are especially keen to make contact with migrant workers directly. We look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes

Catherine, Sarah and Fiona.
