How political relationships forged through EU integration have supported peace

The UK's Future in Europe: Implications for Ireland

7 March 2016

Ireland's Ambassaor in London, Daniel Mulhall, gave a lecture in Cambridge as part of the Centre for European Legal Studies' 'referendum conundrums series', in which he explored the implications for Ireland of the UK's renegotiated relationship with the EU. As part of his lecture he talked about how the Irish and UK Prime Ministers would meet after European Council meetings and how these meetings nurtured the relationships and understandings that enabled the Good Friday Agreement to be negotiated. His lecture was a reminder of the role that European integration has played in providing spaces and places for political relationships to develop that foster peace.
